On July 1,
2014, the Rutgers College of Nursing and the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of
Nursing merged to become the Rutgers School of Nursing. Rutgers School
of Nursing provides baccalaureate education for those entering the
profession of nursing
and for those registered nurses wishing to obtain a baccalaureate
degree, and graduate education at the master's and doctoral levels. The school generates research and scholarly activities in the
field of nursing and health care; contributes to
the improvement of the health and nursing services to the public;
fosters and enhances the image of nursing within the university; and,
more broadly, participates actively in projects and activities aimed at
improving the health of all citizens.
The nursing program is offered in Newark and New
Brunswick and off-site at the Blackwood Campus of Camden County College
with a curriculum that includes liberal arts, sciences, and the
humanities, as well as the nursing major, which
focuses on optimization of health through health promotion, risk
reduction, illness and symptom management, health care technologies using
evidence-based practice, and leadership and management skills within
the profession. The liberal arts education core provides
a strong foundation for developing clinical judgment and clinical
reasoning skills required in professional nursing. The curriculum is
designed to promote intellectual curiosity, human compassion, and
dedication to nursing practice. Students' clinical experiences
are supervised by faculty and integrated with coursework.
