Welcome to the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University!
The school was founded 40 years ago, and ever since we opened our doors, we have been recognized as among the leading programs in the field. Over the years, our faculty have made significant contributions to criminal justice policy and criminological theory, and our graduates have taken their places among the most productive and well-respected scholars and practitioners in the field.
Situated on the most diverse campus in the country and in one of the nation's most vibrant urban centers, we offer a program of study that takes strategic advantage of our superior faculty, dedicated staff, and stimulating location. Located in the Center for Law and Justice, the school has modern classrooms, faculty and research offices, lounge areas, and our Office of Academic and Student Services. To support our mission of education and scholarship, we also house the Don M. Gottfredson Collection located on the third floor of the Law Library. This gives our students access to one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of crime and justice materials anywhere in the world.
The School of Criminal Justice offers a superb undergraduate education. With over 600 students, our undergraduate program is one of the largest and fastest growing disciplines at the university. Our bachelor of science students study some of today's most pressing problems of social justice and public safety. We continue to develop opportunities for field experience and professional development, and research with stellar faculty on projects that have direct impact on the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Our goal is to prepare every student for the future they seek, whether that is in policing or criminal justice professions, continued studies in criminal justice policy and/or law, or in graduate programs focusing on research and advanced academic training.
In addition to our typical four-year degree, we offer an accelerated master's program for qualified students. This allows high-performing students who complete all major and core requirements during their junior year to take master's level classes during their senior year and to graduate with a master's degree with only one additional semester of study.
This, then, is the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers: award-winning faculty, gifted students, terrific facilities housed in a great university and a revitalized Newark. Our program offers every opportunity students need for a terrific education with opportunities for engagement with city, state, national, and international agencies on a broad range of crime prevention and criminal justice activities. We are seeking the best and most creative students. Come join us.
