For students planning careers in any field involving contact with East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Near East, and Middle East, including business, law, teaching, or social work, the Department of History offers an interdisciplinary minor in Asian studies. This minor allows students to craft a personalized course of study that includes history, language, and other courses taught in a variety of disciplines. Students can focus on their particular areas of interest, such as political science, economics, religion, popular culture, gender, or philosophy.
Students must complete the following 18 credits with a grade of C or higher:
1. 6 credits in history related to any of the following: East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Near East, Middle East*
2. 12 credits in a combination of courses chosen from language study (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian), humanities and/or social sciences*
