Students with fewer than 12 college credits at the time of admission must take the Rutgers Placement Test in math and English. However, those students with verbal SATs of 550 or higher are automatically placed into English Composition 101, and students with verbal SATs of 620 or higher are automatically placed into English Composition 103 (Honors). If the student has completed 12 or more college credits at the time of admission, writing and mathematics placement tests may be required. Based on the results of these tests, students are placed in the appropriate English and mathematics courses.
