Practical, clinically oriented introduction to topics relevant to the immune system and infectious diseases in acutely ill adult patients. Provides student with understanding of basic biology of microbial pathogens and mechanisms by which they cause disease. Signs and symptoms of major infectious diseases discussed. Where relevant, consideration given to sociocultural aspects of disease states.
Prerequisite: General biochemistry at the baccalaureate level.
