UNDERGRADUATE
SCHOLASTIC REVIEW:
The faculty reviews, monitors, and takes action on the records of students in academic difficulty each semester (fall, spring, and summer). Based on this review, students may be placed on probation or dismissed from the School of Nursing. Students receiving a failure in any prerequisite course for any nursing course shall not progress in the nursing curriculum until the prerequisite is completed satisfactorily.
ACADEMIC PROBATION:
A student will be placed on academic probation for the subsequent
semester for having one of the following academic deficiencies:
Generic Students in the Freshman and Sophomore Years
1. One
grade lower than a C+ in any lower-division nursing course
2. One grade lower than a C in
any of the following courses: Anatomy and
Physiology and Anatomy and Physiology
lab, Sociology, Statistics, Chemistry and Chemistry lab,
Pathophysiology, and Microbiology
3. Two course grades of less
than a C in any prerequisite course or supporting science course during a freshman student's first semester
4. A semester or cumulative GPA less
than a C (2.0)
5. A
withdrawal and a grade lower than a C in the same prerequisite course or
supporting
science
course
6. A
withdrawal and a grade lower than a C+ in the same lower-division nursing
course
7. Students on academic probation must raise their term/semester and/or
cumulative GPA to a 2.0 (C) within one semester.
Generic Junior and
Senior Students, All Second-Degree Students, All R.N. to B.S. Students

2. A withdrawal and a grade lower than a C+ in the same upper-division
nursing course
3. Students on academic probation must raise their term/semester and/or
cumulative GPA to a 2.0 (C) within one semester.
4. Courses may only be repeated ONCE.
5. Students
may not be placed on academic probation for more than
two terms/semesters
for the generic
program and R.N. to B.S. students and
for not more
than one semester
for accelerated students during their academic tenure at the School of
Nursing.
6. Students placed on academic probation are notified by email and/or letter
and are required to make an appointment to meet with their course faculty to
develop a plan of action to improve their
academic standing. Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program students must also contact their EOF adviser.
DISMISSAL:
Undergraduate students will be dismissed from the School of Nursing due
to:
Generic Students in the
Freshman and Sophomore Years
1. Two course grades of less than a C+ in any nursing course at any time
during matriculation into the nursing
program
2. Two course grades of less than a C in any prerequisite course or
supporting science course at any time during matriculation into the nursing
program, except during a freshman's first semester
3. Two semesters with a semester and or cumulative GPA of less than a 2.0 for
generic program students
4. Violation of school or university policies, such as the Academic Integrity Policy and the University Code of Student Conduct (violations are
specified in the policies)
Generic Junior and
Senior Students, All Second-Degree Students, All R.N. to B.S. Students
1.
Two course grades of less than a C+ in nursing course at any time during
matriculation into the nursing
program
2. Two course grades of less than a C in any prerequisite course or
supporting science course at any time during matriculation into the nursing

3. Two semesters with a term and or cumulative GPA of less than a 2.0 for
generic program students and less than 2.5 for accelerated program students.
4. Violation of school or university policies, such as the Academic Integrity Policy and the University Code of Student Conduct (violations are
specified in the policies).
An error of omission on the part of the School of Nursing is not sufficient grounds for readmitting a student on appeal if satisfactory progress toward the degree has not been made.
GRADUATE
Students may be required to terminate their graduate studies and/or withdraw from the program if they fail to maintain satisfactory academic
or professional standards in any phase of their graduate program.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
Students meeting any of the following
conditions will be placed on academic probation and will receive written notice
of their status:
1. Earning one grade of C+ (74.5% - 79.49%)
2. Earning one grade of C (69.5% -
74.49%). In this case the course in
which the C grade was earned must be repeated and a grade of B (79.5%) or higher must be
earned to progress.
Students may only repeat a course once. Repeating a course does not
expunge the original grade, which remains on the student record as one grade below B.
ACADEMIC SUSPENSION
Students violating School of Nursing, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), or university
policies may be subject to academic suspension. The duration of the academic
suspension will be established by the school.
ACADEMIC DISMISSAL
Students meeting any of the following
conditions will be subject to academic dismissal and will receive written notice of their status:
1. Earning any two or more grades below B
(79.5%)
2. Earning a D or below (69.5%)
3. Unsatisfactory, unsafe, or unethical
clinical practice
4. Failure to complete degree requirements
within allowable time limits
5. Violation of other school, RBHS, or university policies (e.g., academic integrity, etc.)
Programs are expected to conduct annual reviews of student performance. When a student is judged not to make satisfactory progress, the program notifies the student in writing of its concern. Such a warning specifies the source of the concern and the proposed action. A probationary period of one semester is normal. Following the probationary period, a student who fails to meet the provisions of the warning is considered for dismissal by the faculty. When termination is recommended, the specialty director communicates to the associate dean of graduate education in writing the specific reasons involved. The associate dean of graduate education will write the actual letter of termination to the student.
