The certificate in genetic counseling (CGC) is intended for
students interested in applying to master's-level programs in genetic counseling. The goal of the CGC is to provide students with guidance,
coursework, and relevant clinical experience necessary for graduate school
applications. This is a highly competitive option and will only be open to
declared genetics majors. The certificate will be awarded only in conjunction
with the awarding of a baccalaureate degree in genetics. At the end of the
program students will:- understand genetic counseling as a profession;
- understand application requirements for master's-level programs;
- gain
experience in talking with people who are in crisis; and
- gain experience in a
clinical genetic counseling clinic.
