The interdisciplinary major in East Asian languages and area studies with concentrations in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean consists of 30
credits distributed as follows:
A. Four courses in one of the East Asian languages above intermediate; normally 301, 302, and two other courses at the 300 level or above, unless placed higher by placement exam or in consultation with a faculty adviser.
B. Six area studies courses:
- One course chosen from:
01:098/214:241 East Asian Civilizations: Traditional Era (3), or 01:098/214:242 East Asian Civilizations: Modern Era (3), or 01:098:250 Global East Asia (3)
- 01:098:444 Seminar on East Asian Societies (3)
- Four elective courses, of which at least two must be offered in area of concentration, under subject codes 165, 565, 574. The remaining two courses may include approved courses for the minor in Asian studies. See the Asian Studies 098 section found elsewhere in this catalog.
