Attendance and Cancellation of Classes

In accordance with university regulations, attendance is expected at all regularly scheduled meetings of a course. Absences due to religious observance, university-sanctioned activities, or illness documented with the office of the dean of students are treated as authenticated absences.

The university also has a self-reporting absence login at https://sims.rutgers.edu/ssra. Please note: it is up to your instructors to determine how to handle your absence from classes, labs, or exams. Reporting your absence does not "excuse" you. It notifies your instructors, a courtesy that provides an opportunity for you to contact your instructor directly about missed work. In addition to reporting your absence here, you are encouraged to contact your instructors directly. If you anticipate missing more than one week of classes for serious illness, confidential, or sensitive personal reasons, you should also consult with a New Brunswick dean of students who will help to verify your extended absences from classes.

It is the policy of the Rutgers University not to cancel classes on religious holidays. For information on the cancellation of classes due to inclement weather, see the University Policies and Procedures section of the General Information chapter of this catalog.
