Scholastic Standing

The Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick Academic Standing Committee, which consists of RBS-UNB faculty from each major department, the assistant dean, and senior associate dean, reviews all student academic problems.

While academic standards involve many issues beyond academic performance, including adherence to university procedures regarding academic dishonesty and illegal and/or unauthorized actions in the academic setting, students should be aware of the school's specific scholastic standing policies.

Students who are admitted to RBS-UNB as freshmen will have their academic performance closely monitored during their first three semesters at RBS-UNB. The following policies will apply during this period:

1.  Students will receive an academic progress warning if their semester average is below a 2.000 after the first semester of their freshman year.

2.  Students will be placed on academic probation if their cumulative grade-point average is below a 2.500 after the second semester of their freshman year.

3.  Students who have a cumulative grade-point average of less than a 3.000 at the end of the first semester of their sophomore year will be academically dismissed from RBS-UNB. Those students whose cumulative grade-point average is between a 2.000-2.999 will be granted a "carry" semester during the second semester of their sophomore year to submit a school-to-school transfer to another Rutgers University unit. Students may not take business courses or declare a business major during this "carry" semester.

Additionally, all Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick students are required to complete all School 33 courses (Rutgers Business School) with grades of at least C. This policy has three parts:

1. Students must retake any Rutgers Business School course in which they earn a grade of D (1.0) or F (0.0) and improve the grade to a C (2.0) or better. If students receive a grade of D or F in a course that is a prerequisite to another course, they must repeat the course in which they received the D or F and receive a grade of C or better before they may take the next course.

2. Failure to receive a grade of C or better on a student's second attempt in a given Rutgers Business School course will result in dismissal from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick.

3. Students must not earn a grade of D or F in more than two Rutgers Business School courses. Three grades of D and/or F will result in dismissal from the school.

Students dismissed from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick have been dismissed from Rutgers University and may not continue study at the university unless readmitted to RBS-UNB or another Rutgers University division. Students dismissed from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick may petition the Academic Standing Committee for reconsideration. This must be done in writing by the date indicated in their letter of dismissal.

These guidelines complement current university regulations on student academic performance.
