The total number of credits required for graduation is a minimum of 120 credits and can exceed that depending on the student's major program. In no instance may a student graduate with fewer than 120 credits and a cumulative grade-point average of less than 2.0.

The residency requirement varies by program. Transfer students normally should expect to spend a minimum of two years in the music program. Three years of resident study should be expected in the dance, theater arts, and visual arts programs. Four years of resident study is expected in the theater arts acting concentration. Visual arts transfer students must earn at least 30 credits in studio art courses (081) and fulfill the required 12 credits of critical study coursework (080) at Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Each candidate for the bachelor's degree must earn a minimum of 30 of the last 42 credits at Rutgers.
