Joel Cantor, Interim Director
The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging
Research (IHHCPAR) was established to consolidate and focus the resources of
the university on critical health, health care, and aging issues facing the
nation. The institute facilitates collaboration among scholars who represent
many disciplines, providing them with opportunities to pool their knowledge and
expertise in examining multifaceted health issues. The IHHCPAR has three divisions on health, health policy, and aging. Its centers include the Center
for State Health Policy; Center for Behavioral Services and Criminal Justice
Research; Center for Health Services Research on Pharmacotherapy, Chronic
Disease Management, and Outcomes; Center for Education and Research in
Therapeutics; and Center for the Study of Health Beliefs and Behavior. The Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation has four funded programs at the institute: the
Investigator Awards Program in Health Policy Research, the New Jersey Health
Initiatives Program, Evaluating Innovations in Nursing Education, and Project
L/EARN, a graduate education preparation program for undergraduates from
underrepresented groups in the health field. The divisions and centers of the
institute provide research and training opportunities to predoctoral students
enrolled in degree-granting programs elsewhere in the university, to trainees
enrolled in the institute's postdoctoral program, and to undergraduates. While
the institute has a broad scope, it focuses its research and policy efforts in
areas where it has analytic strength and where it can build on the excellence
of academic departments and professional schools at the university.
