Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (3,3)
First semester: structure and
function of proteins, nucleic acid structure, catalysis of biochemical
reactions, glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, photosynthesis, properties of
membranes, signal transduction, intermediary metabolism. Second semester: recombinant
DNA approaches, DNA replication, mutability, recombination, repair, and
transposition, transcription, posttranscriptional processing, translation, gene
regulation.
Brill. Prerequisite: One year of organic chemistry. These courses are recommended for students outside the program in biochemistry.
