The master of education (Ed.M.) in college student affairs at Rutgers-New Brunswick is a 42-credit course of study designed to prepare individuals to work with students in a variety of administrative and advising positions in colleges and universities. The program provides opportunities for students to explore various opportunities and tailor a program that will assist students to gain experience in those areas of interest.
The program enhances student learning by integrating theoretical, empirical, and professional learning opportunities into the total educational experience. The program's design, resources, and learning goals are consistent with standards and outcomes articulated by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), and the Council for Advancement of Standards (CAS).
Students in the program pursue a rigorous course of study that prepares them for employment in higher education settings such as programs reporting to vice presidents for student affairs, vice presidents for undergraduate education, and/or deans of students. Program graduates work directly with students in, for example, housing and residence life, student unions, student activities, career development, new student orientation, enrollment management, multicultural student services, retention and assessment, parent programs, student discipline, academic advising, academic enrichment services, and disability services.
