James Walkup
is chair of the Department of Clinical Psychology,
and director of the clinical psychology program in the Graduate School of
Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers, The State University of
New Jersey. He has postdoctoral clinical training in inpatient psychiatry and research training in the organization and financing of care for people with severe mental illness. His clinical interests include schizophrenia, bipolar illness, recurrent depression, and severe personality disorder. In his research, he is particularly concerned with nonpsychiatric needs of people with psychiatric symptoms, such as health care, work opportunities, family ties, friendships, and participation in communities. Dr. Walkup's current research projects focus on the stigma associated with mental illness and the provision of care for people with mental illness and HIV.
