History and Aims of the College

Since its origin in 1927 as the College of South Jersey, the Camden College of Arts and Sciences has undergone a dramatic growth in curricular offerings, facilities, and the size of the student body. As the largest academic unit at Rutgers-Camden, this is where you¿ll find everything from a traditional liberal arts education rooted in the humanities to technical degrees that prepare you to explore the frontiers of science. We're proud to deliver Rutgers-Camden's widest array of degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels.

Our faculty are experts from across the academic spectrum, from writers and anthropologists to historians and chemists. No matter the field, they all believe in putting what is learned in the classroom to use both at home and abroad.

The college is committed to maintaining its tradition as a liberal arts institution. A broad range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, and natural and physical sciences is available to its students. General education requirements ensure that students gain an understanding of all areas of the liberal arts curriculum.

At Rutgers-Camden we are focused on practical learning, providing our students with numerous opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience in the real world. With many options for collaboration and discovery, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences is a great place to realize your academic dreams and embark on your professional career.
