Criminal Justice Minor

All students minoring in criminal justice must take 21 credits: 9 credits in the core criminal justice curriculum and 12 credits from among the 300- to 400-level crime and/or criminal justice-related elective courses in criminal justice, sociology, or anthropology, including either 50:920:316 Race and Ethnicity; 50:920:332 Social Stratification; or 50:202:337 Poor Minorities and Justice. Students must complete the following criminal justice core curriculum (9 credits):

50:202:201  Criminal Justice in American Society (3)

Two of the following three courses:

   50:202:202  Police and Policing (3)

   50:202:203  Confinement and Corrections (3)

50:202:204  Courts and Criminal Law (3)

For students majoring in sociology and minoring in criminal justice, special conditions apply. None of the 21 credits required for the criminal justice minor may be applied to the sociology major with the exception of either 50:920:316 Race and Ethnicity or 50:920:332 Social Stratification, which fulfills a requirement for both. The required number of elective courses for the sociology major is reduced from six to four, for a total of 48 credits for the combined sociology major/criminal justice minor.
