Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.)
Applications to the master of public administration degree program are reviewed for admission on a rolling basis, but are due no later than March 1 for the fall semester, or December 1 for the spring semester.
Applications must be submitted online at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/apply/apply-now and will include:
1. A transcript showing completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and any other transcripts for graduate degrees or courses taken at the graduate level.
2. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results received directly from the Educational Testing Service. Results of law school (LSAT) or business school (GMAT) entrance exams may be submitted in lieu of the GRE. All results must be submitted within three years of the test date.
The GRE requirement may be waived for applicants holding a graduate degree or with three years or more of relevant professional experience. Waivers are also granted for accelerated bachelor of arts/master of public administration (B.A./M.P.A.) applicants.
3. Three letters of recommendation.
4. A carefully prepared statement regarding the applicant's personal and professional goals and experience. The statement weighs heavily in admissions considerations.
5. A current résumé.
Nonmatriculated Status
The department accepts a limited number of students on a nonmatriculated basis. Applications for nonmatriculated (nondegree) status must be submitted online at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/apply/apply-now and will include:
1. A transcript showing completion of a baccalaureate degree from an
accredited college or university, and any other transcripts for
graduate degrees or courses taken at the graduate level.
2. A written statement listing personal and professional goals and the reasons why nonmatriculated status is desired.
3. A current résumé.
Indicate the courses in which the student plans to enroll. (Note: Nonmatriculated students may not enroll in more than two courses per semester and in no more than a total of four 3-credit courses while in nonmatriculated status.) Nonmatriculated students may take up to 12 credits from the core curriculum (see Degree Requirements).
A student who has been rejected for regular admission is ineligible for nonmatriculated status for one year after the date of rejection.
Applications for nonmatriculated status must be received by August 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester.
Questions concerning admission should be directed to the M.P.A. graduate director.
