Admission Requirements

Applications for admission to the graduate program in mathematical sciences should be submitted no later than March 1 for the fall semester if the applicant wishes to be considered for assistantships, fellowships, or other financial aid. For applicants not requesting financial aid, the application deadline for the fall semester is July 1, and the application deadline for the spring semester is December 1. It sometimes is possible to begin the program in the summer semester; contact the director for details. Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

1. Completed, by the date of enrollment in the graduate program, a baccalaureate degree with a major in mathematics or a related field. If your undergraduate major was in an unrelated field, we might be able to admit you to the program after you have completed a few undergraduate math classes (Calculus I, II, III, and either Differential Equations or Linear Algebra), at Rutgers or elsewhere. Contact the program director for details.

2. Submit transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work.

3. Submit the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). This requirement may be waived in certain cases. Check with the program director.

4. Submit three letters of recommendation.

5. Submit the online application form at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu.

6. Applicants for the industrial applied mathematics track must submit a statement indicating that they are proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Fortran, C, C++, or an equivalent.

7. Applicants for the mathematical computer science track should be proficient in the programming language C or C++.
