A total of 30 credits is required to complete the program:
1. 27 credits (nine courses) subject to the following guidelines:
a. 6 credits (two courses) in specially designated seminars in liberal studies are recommended (does not apply to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL) or online students);
b. must include at least 3 credits (one course) on either non-Western cultures or issues pertaining to gender and minorities;
c. must include courses in at least three different academic disciplines;
d. must include at least 6 credits (two courses) in humanities (art, history, literature, philosophy, religion, etc.);
e. must include at least 6 credits (two courses) in social
sciences (anthropology, psychology, political science, sociology,
criminal justice, etc.);
f. may include any courses offered by the graduate programs in
childhood studies, English, history, law, psychology, and public policy
(subject to the approval of the directors of these programs and the
liberal studies program director);
g. may include up to two
approved advanced undergraduate courses from a wide variety of liberal
arts and sciences disciplines (in which graduate students are required
to do more work than is required of the undergraduate students).
Enrollment in an undergraduate course requires prior approval by the
graduate program director.
2. Capstone Project (3 credits) -- an independent research project
supervised by a faculty adviser on a topic of particular interest to
the individual student (56:606:689)
3. Academic Probation -- No more than two courses with grades lower than a B may be
counted toward the degree. Two grades lower than B will result in
academic probation. Any additional grade lower than a B will result in
dismissal from the program.
4. Transfer Credit from other graduate programs -- Up to 10 graduate credits
(with grades of B or better) may be transferred from other programs,
with the approval of the graduate program director.
