The master of arts (M.A.) program in criminal justice promotes study for those seeking career opportunities or advancement in justice-related fields as well as for those who seek preparation for doctoral studies.
The graduate program builds on the multidisciplinary strength of the faculty. The criminal justice faculty emphasizes social science theories and
methods for a comprehensive understanding of crime and the
justice system, including contemporary issues affecting it, and the analytic skills required to conduct and to apply research to assess crime and social policy. Faculty members from various departments in the Graduate School–Camden and the School of Law-Camden provide the program with a wide array of justice-related electives.
The program offers a 48-credit dual master of arts/master of public administration (M.A./M.P.A.) degree (further details in subsequent section), as well as a dual bachelor of arts/master of arts (B.A./M.A.) criminal justice program to high-performing Rutgers undergraduate
students. A maximum of 9 credits can be taken in the B.A./M.A. program.
The M.A. program is open to part-time and full-time students. Required courses are offered in the evening hours. Some elective courses are available during the day.
