Second Baccalaureate Degree

Students who hold a credential equivalent to the baccalaureate degree in the United States from an accredited institution may pursue a second bachelor's degree at the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). Second-degree candidates must complete the following requirements:

  1. A minimum of 30 credits at Rutgers University-New Brunswick beyond those applied to the initial degree
  2. All requirements for a new major
  3. The SAS Core Curriculum

Students may apply approved coursework completed during the first degree toward the Areas of Inquiry and Cognitive Skills and Processes components of the Core Curriculum. However, all second degree candidates must complete at least the Contemporary Challenges [CC] learning goals and one Writing and Communication with revision [WCr] course at Rutgers-New Brunswick as part of the second degree; courses taken as part of the first degree cannot be used to satisfy these requirements.

Two baccalaureate degrees may not be earned concurrently except through approved dual-degree programs, such as that between SAS and the School of Engineering. Students who complete multiple majors earn a single bachelor's degree.
