Timothy Cleary

Dr. Timothy J. Cleary is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP). He specializes in the development of self-regulated learning (SRL) assessment tools and the implementation and evaluation of SRL and motivation intervention programs across academic, sports, and clinical contexts. He has published two books and over 35 peer-reviewed journal articles addressing issues in self-regulation. His most recent edited book, Self-Regulated Learning Interventions with At-Risk Youth: Enhancing Adaptability, Performance, and Well-Being (APA) underscores the importance of data-generation and monitoring mechanisms in promoting self-awareness and optimal regulatory behaviors. Dr. Cleary has received several grants over the past few years with his most recent grant from the Spencer Foundation supporting efforts to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of his Self-Regulation Empowerment Program (SREP) with middle school youth. Dr. Cleary is a member of several editorial boards, served six years on the executive board of the Studying and Self-Regulated Learning SIG of AERA, and has consulted with school districts and colleges throughout the U.S. regarding evidence-based SRL and motivation practices.
