About the School of Social Work

Established in 1954, the School of Social Work has a distinguished record of instruction, research, and public service. Classes were first offered during the Great Depression to meet the state's need for social workers. Today, the school offers undergraduate and graduate-professional degree programs; holds classes at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Rutgers University-Newark, and Rutgers University-Camden; and is affiliated with social service agencies locally and worldwide.

Mission

The mission of the School of Social Work is to develop and disseminate knowledge through social work research, education, and training that promotes social and economic justice and strengthens individual, family, and community well-being in the diverse and increasingly global environment of New Jersey and beyond.

Location

The school offers classes in New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden. The Office of the Dean is located at 120 Albany Street, Tower One, Suite 200 near the university's historic Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus. Each location is close to major highways and rail systems and within easy commuting distance of New York City and Philadelphia.
