M.P.H. Competencies Department of Quantitative Methods: Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Each department identifies competencies for each degree offered. These competencies
reflect the full range of knowledge, skills, and other attributes that a
student will acquire as a result of completing the requirements for a
particular degree. Students are able to emphasize either in biostatistics or epidemiology, or both.
Upon graduation, a student completing the M.P.H.
curriculum in quantitative methods: epidemiology or biostatistics will be able to:
- use epidemiologic concepts to identify and evaluate public health and clinical problems;
- develop research protocols to assess public health problems, clinical questions, and evaluate public health programs;
- critically evaluate epidemiological data and findings;
- communicate results from epidemiologic studies;
- demonstrate proficiency in the use of a variety of software packages used in epidemiology (e.g., JMP, SAS and Epi-Info);
