Students interested in pursuing Departmental Honors enter the program in the summer before their senior year. To qualify for departmental honors, a student must have completed 85 or more credits including 15 or more credits in core human resource management classes with a cumulative grade-point average within the major of 3.5 or better. Students must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, have taken one of the research methods courses that apply to the program, as well as one of the statistics courses that apply to the program. Eligible students formally apply to the director of the HRM programs. Candidates who are accepted are required to complete a research project under the direction of a faculty member, culminating in a written honors thesis, and are examined orally by a faculty honors committee.
An honors thesis typically carries 6 credits. Students who take advantage of the departmental honors program should not register for more than four courses per semester during their senior year. Planning for the thesis should take place in a student's junior year.
