Program Learning Outcomes


Graduates of the Rutgers DPT program will be:

A. Movement Specialists
Demonstrate competence as movement specialists who deliver safe and effective patient-centered management across the lifespan.
Measurable Outcomes
  1. Consistently and accurately identify movement system problems, value standardized measures and collaborate with patients for shared decision-making in patient management.
  2. Execute analysis of movement and tasks (or movement analysis of task) and use for decision making and intervention plan.
  3. Provide interventions and plans of care for the optimization of movement, participation, activity and roles of patient across a lifespan.
B. Evidence Informed
Apply and synthesize evidence-based practice principles and clinical reasoning to answer research and clinical questions for examination, intervention, prevention and education.
Measurable Outcomes
  1. Maintain currency with the literature.
  2. Use best evidence to support clinical decisions addressing patient participation, activity, roles and body structure and function.
  3. Use individual and collective patient outcomes to inform clinical decision-making, shared-informed decision-making, and future clinical questions.
C. Professional Leaders Practitioners in Community and Society
Graduates will be practitioners and leaders promoting health equity through movement and advocating for diverse populations
Measurable Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate societal engagement through participation in community health and wellness opportunities such as community clinics, screening programs, educational presentations.
  2. Provide education and a voice to the benefits of physical activity, movement and exercise to diverse patient populations.
  3. Provide educational opportunities to physical therapists and other health care professionals about quality and equitable care via advocacy, in-services, conferences and continuing education.
  4. Demonstrate responsible practice guided by awareness of current ethical, legal and regulatory principles and self-evaluate as a basis of lifelong learning and professional growth.
