The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) Office of Student
Services provides academic assistance, student support and referral, career guidance and support, and student life engagement opportunities to students in all SC&I academic programs.
Current and prospective students are encouraged to seek out advising throughout their academic careers. SC&I Student Services staff can provide basic information about academic programs, admissions, degree requirements, and career planning. Students can also speak with Student Services staff when they need support dealing with nonacademic circumstances that affect their academics. Faculty in each degree program can also offer advising on matching course selection with intellectual interests and career goals.
Basic academic program information is provided on the school's website. Students are encouraged to schedule appointments with the student services advisors, the director for their major, or other department faculty. All courses are not offered every semester, and students are strongly encouraged to check course prerequisites carefully and formulate a plan of study that will enable them to develop a coherent area of concentration in the major that meets their career goals while taking into account course availability. Students must also seek advising through their four-year school regarding appropriate minors, double majors, and school requirements in concert with a SC&I major.
Career Services
The Office of Student Services provides targeted career support for students in all SC&I academic programs through career training workshops, job and internship fairs, and individual and group career counseling. SC&I students are also encouraged to seek additional career guidance and support through the Career Exploration and Success office.
SC&I cultivates
relationships with employers and alumni to provide students with
employment opportunities and information. In addition, each of our
degree programs has an active internship program and most students do
choose to participate.
