Financial Aid
The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) does not admit undergraduate students directly to Rutgers. Students enter through one of the four-year undergraduate schools of the university and are eligible for all financial aid from the university and their four-year school. Rutgers University-New Brunswick financial aid information may be found at https://newbrunswick.rutgers.edu/admissions/financial-aid.
Federal
work-study employment may be offered as a self-help portion of a financial aid
award. Application for this program is made by filing the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available at https://studentaid.gov/. On-campus
jobs are available in many areas. Selection for a particular job is based on
skills, job availability, university needs, and student preference. The
assigned employment opportunity is based on an expectation that the student
will work between five and 15 hours weekly throughout the fall and spring
academic semesters; in the case of summer assignments, the expectation is that
the student will work between 20 and 35 hours per week. Off-campus employment,
including paid community service positions and reading tutorial jobs in
elementary schools, also are available. No job assignments are made until all
paperwork required to accept the aid is complete.
SC&I offers a limited number of scholarships and a few prizes to high-achieving Rutgers undergraduates who are declared majors in the school or graduate students enrolled in degree programs. Continuing students are notified early in the spring semester of what scholarships will be available in the coming year, and have an opportunity to apply for them. Graduate students applying to SC&I can indicate their financial needs
on their application forms. Doctoral students are considered for teaching assistantships, graduate assistantships,
or fellowships, which provide a salary or stipend as well as tuition and fee remission.
Detailed information about what scholarships and prizes were available in the most recent academic year can be found on the school's website at https://comminfo.rutgers.edu/office-student-services/financial-information/scholarships-and-awards.
