The
School of Communication and Information has two
dual-degree program
s
that
that
allow admitted upper-level undergraduate
majors to apply to a master's program and begin taking coursework while still completing the undergraduate degree. The programs enable the students to complete a bachelor's degree within four years and a master's degree in a fifth year; or students may choose to enroll part time and complete the graduate degree over a longer period.
One pathway enables communication majors to apply to the master of communication and media (M.C.M.) program, and one pathway enables information technology and informatics majors to apply to the master of information (M.I.) program. Details about admission requirements and program options appear in the M.C.M. and M.I. sections of this catalog, and on the
school's website.
Upper-level Rutgers undergraduate students who
are not seeking a complete graduate degree may apply to the director of the relevant master's program for permission to register for selected M.C.M. or M.I.
courses. Permission is based on the student's academic record and professional and academic goals. Undergraduates may request to transfer the graduate credits toward the master's degree if they are subsequently admitted to either program, provided such credits were not used for their undergraduate degree. Students wishing to make such transfers must register for E credits while in the undergraduate unit.
