The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) Office of Student
Services provides academic and student life support to students in all SC&I
academic programs.
Students and prospective students are encouraged to seek out advising throughout their academic career. SC&I Student Services staff can provide basic information about programs, admissions, degree requirements, and career planning. Students can also speak with Student Services staff when they need support dealing with nonacademic circumstances that affect their academics. Faculty in each degree program can also offer advising on matching course selection with intellectual interests and career goals.
Basic information is provided on the school's website.
To address more complex questions, students are encouraged to schedule
appointments with the director for the major, other department faculty, or
student services advisers in the school. All courses are not offered every
semester, and students are strongly encouraged to check course prerequisites
carefully and formulate a plan of study that will enable them to develop a coherent
area of concentration in the major that meets their career goals while taking
into account course availability. Students must also seek advising through their
four-year school regarding appropriate minors, double majors, and school
requirements in concert with a SC&I major.
