Student Life

Rutgers University–New Brunswick's Campus offers undergraduate students almost unlimited possibilities for co- and extracurricular activities.

Students of the School of Communication and Information (SC&I) have the opportunity to participate in residence life, dormitories, or nearby off-campus housing. See the Residence Life website for further information.

There are over 400 student organizations on campus, and their student leaders participate in advisement, organizational development programs, and support services. These groups range from academic to social action organizations and include the student government of the university, Rutgers University Student Assembly (R.U.S.A.). There are over 80 fraternities and sororities that offer opportunities for friendship, academic support, and housing. Rutgers has a wide range of intercollegiate and intramural athletics and is home to the Scarlet Knights

Within SC&I there are over a dozen student organizations that offer social, educational, service, and career development events.  Most events are publicized and open to all students. Leadership opportunities are plentiful, and student leaders participate in a council at the school.

The SC&I Leadership Council is an advisory group consisting of the presidents and vice presidents of each of the undergraduate and graduate student organizations recognized and supported by the school. The Leadership Council serves as a vehicle for collaborative opportunities and initiatives including: providing a voice for the student experience; promoting interactions and collaborations among student organizations; providing perspective and direct feedback to the school's administration; and developing models for leadership for all students.
