Through its Urban Teacher Education Program (UTEP), the Department of Urban Education prepares teacher candidates to teach in racially, ethnically, economically, and linguistically diverse urban secondary schools. Students major in one of the following disciplines, while enrolled in UTEP: English, mathematics, science (biology, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, or physics), social studies (history), and world language (Spanish or Portuguese). Currently, only secondary teacher certification is offered through UTEP. Interested students should review the additional information, including application and admissions requirements, found in the Urban Education 300 of this catalog or online at https://sasn.rutgers.edu/academics-admissions/academic-departments/urban-education.
