Credits and Residency

A student must successfully complete at least 120 academic credits to graduate from the Newark College of Arts and Sciences. Successful completion of some programs of study may require more than the minimum 120 credits necessary for graduation.

Students in the Newark College of Arts and Sciences are expected to complete all degree credits from the time of their matriculation at Rutgers University-Newark, including credits required for their major, second concentration, and for the Core Curriculum. Exceptions may be made in very special circumstances with the prior written approval of the Office of Academic Services. In addition, for courses meant to be applicable to the completion of the major, the student must receive prior written approval from the academic department responsible for the major.

Students matriculated in the Newark College of Arts and Sciences must earn 30 of their last 42 credits while registered in classes offered by Rutgers University-Newark or be registered in special programs approved in writing by the Office of Academic Services. Students who transfer into the Newark College of Arts and Sciences from other institutions with senior status must earn a minimum of 30 credits while registered as Newark College of Arts and Sciences students in order to receive a bachelor's degree from the college.

Credits earned more than seven years before the date of graduation are not necessarily accepted in fulfillment of the requirements for graduation.
