Newark Undergraduate Catalog 2018-2020 School of Arts and Sciences-Newark Admission to the Liberal Arts Colleges Academic Credit Transfer Credits

Transfer Credits

Transfer credit for courses completed at another institution generally is evaluated after an applicant has been admitted to the college of his or her choice. Except in certain specific instances, credit is generally granted for courses taken at a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, provided that the coursework is completed within seven years of application to the colleges and the student earns grades of C or better. Credits will transfer but grades do not transfer into the Rutgers grade-point average. Each college transfers courses differently.

Transfer students are subject to all degree requirements for the bachelor's degree outlined in this catalog and the major requirements stipulated by the faculty of the major department. Applicable courses transferred with the minimal passing grade of C may be used to satisfy the core curriculum requirements. At least half of the credits required for the completion of a major and second concentration at Newark College of Arts and Sciences and University College-Newark must be completed at Rutgers University-Newark.

The maximum number of credits transferred may not exceed 90 credits from a four-year institution, 65 of which may be from a two-year college. The maximum number of credits accepted from a two-year college is the number of credits required to earn the associate in arts or associate in science degree, not to exceed 65 credits in any case.

It should be noted that both Newark College of Arts and Sciences and University College-Newark accept a maximum of 12 credits in professional electives. Credit generally will not be accepted for courses in military or aviation science, physical education activities, secretarial/office science, cooperative education, and developmental or remedial courses.
