Students meeting any one or more of the following conditions are automatically on academic probation:
1)
a cumulative grade-point average of less than 2.0;
2)
semester grade-point averages of less than 2.0 for two consecutive
semesters (not including summer and winter sessions) of enrollment at
Rutgers University-Newark, full time or part time;
3)
failure to complete successfully 60 percent or more of all credits
attempted within seven years immediately prior to the time of the
academic review, including attempts for which W grades are received;
4)
failure to enroll in a composition course, or preparatory
course, as determined by the established placement standards at the
college and prior course history, each and every semester until the
writing proficiency requirement is satisfied, unless otherwise advised
in writing by the Director of the Writing Program or the Office of
Academic Services;
5)
failure to enroll in the mathematics course, as prescribed by
the placement standards at the college and prior course history, and
continue to enroll each and every semester until the mathematics
proficiency requirement is satisfied, unless otherwise advised in
writing by the Coordinator of Elementary Mathematics or the Office of
Academic Services;
6)
failure to complete successfully any course after three attempts, including those for which W grades are received.
Students on academic probation must see an adviser and must attend
two academic support workshops ("Academic Success" and "R U Ready to
Succeed") workshop, for which they may register at the Office of Academic Services' website.
At the discretion of the Scholastic Standing Committee or the Office of
Academic Services, a course of action to improve the student's academic
standing also may be specified in an academic contract, which may
include a limitation on extracurricular activities and/or the number of
credits carried and/or changes in the student's program of study.
Failure to comply with any of the conditions of probation may result in
further restrictions on registration or academic dismissal.
