The master's in public administration (M.P.A.) is a professional degree that prepares students for positions in government and nonprofit sectors. It is offered by the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA). The M.P.A. degree provides the contexts of public and nonprofit sector organizations and the skills sought by organizations in these sectors. Those completing the M.P.A. degree at SPAA compete for management positions in local, state, and federal governments. They join or start mission-based organizations in the nonprofit sector. They compete well because the SPAA program is in the top ten U.S. schools for this degree. The M.P.A. curriculum combines public service values with knowledge and skills for leading and managing effective and accountable organizations. The B.S./B.A./M.P.A. dual degree is especially suited to public service majors and other arts and sciences undergraduates. It also complements other service degrees such as psychology and social work.
