Educational Opportunity Fund

The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program is a state-sponsored program for highly motivated students from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The program targets eligible students who excel in their academic environments, but may not have the educational preparation necessary to compete in a college environment without additional support. The EOF Program provides the student with financial assistance to defray the cost of education, academic assistance to compete in the classroom, and counseling assistance to develop leadership skills. The financial assistance is provided in the form of a grant, and amounts vary. Academic assistance is provided to complement the rigorous nursing curriculum. This consists of individual tutoring; concurrent special support courses in the sciences, math, and nursing; special seminars in writing and test taking; a prejunior clinical course; an NCLEX-RN review; and the sponsoring of membership in honor clubs and societies. Counseling assistance is provided in the form of individual, group, and family counseling; first-year student seminars; and oversight of student organizations and clubs. The program is available to eligible students coming directly out of high school and to transfer students who were EOF students at their previous institutions.
