The Air Force has a continuing need for nurses in a variety of specialties. It offers college scholarships for nursing students with an undergraduate grade-point average of at least 2.65 or for high school seniors with a minimum SAT score of 1100. Scholarships include tuition, fees, books, and a monthly stipend. Students may enroll in two-, three-, or four-year programs. Normally, students attend summer field training at the end of the sophomore year. Air Force ROTC also offers an accelerated one-year program for nursing majors.
An army officers training program is offered through the Department of Military Education (Army) on the Rutgers campus in New Brunswick. Army ROTC is open to qualified Rutgers students of all academic majors. Completion of the program results in the award of an army commission as lieutenant in the regular army, army reserves, or army national guard. Tangible aspects of participation include scholarship opportunities, pay during the advanced phase of the program (300- and 400-level courses), improved potential in seeking civilian employment, and access to military careers.
