With almost 12,000 graduates, the School of
Law-Newark has a loyal and spirited body of alumni. Many of them, and
others affiliated with the school, have achieved broad recognition.
U.S. Senators Robert Menendez
('79) and Elizabeth Warren ('76) serve their country and their states with distinction. Justices of the New Jersey Supreme Court include Jaynee LaVecchia ('79) and Virginia Long ('66) (now retired). Esther Salas ('94), is a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, William S. Greenberg ('67) is a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, Patrick Morrisey ('92) is West Virginia Attorney General, and Acting Dean Ronald Chen ('83) was New Jersey Public Advocate. Paul S. Miller ('62) was executive vice president and general counsel
of Pfizer, Inc. at the time of his retirement, and Lois Van Deusen ('77) was managing
partner of McCarter & English L.L.P. before she retired. Donna Lieberman
('73) is executive director of the New York
Civil Liberties Union,
and
Vincent Warren ('93) is executive director of the Center for Constitutional Rights. David L. Harris ('79) is chair of the litigation Department at Lowenstein Sandler PC, Mary Beth Hogan ('90) is a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton L.L.P., Frederick Morton Jr. ('93) is founder and CEO of Tempo Networks LLC, and
Kimberly Banks MacKay ('95) is senior pharmaceuticals counsel for Novartis. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
began her teaching career at Rutgers and served nine
years as a member of the law school faculty.
The Alumni
Association of the School of Law-Newark sponsors a variety of annual
programs for the benefit of the school, its students, and its
graduates. These include an autumn dinner honoring alumni of
distinction and the Chief Justice Joseph Weintraub Lecture in
the spring. The association sponsors scholarships for law students and
annually awards the Alumni Senior Prize, the Justice Henry E. Ackerson
Jr. Prize, and the Eli Jarmel Memorial Prize to graduating students.
Graduates are kept informed of recent developments at the law school
through the school's website and a periodic newsletter. The university publishes the award-winning Rutgers Magazine for alumni and friends of the university.
Alumni continue to have full access to the career services office and
are encouraged to participate in the many programs offered to students,
including the mentoring program and career panels.
