How to Apply
All students interested in receiving federal, state, or institutional financial aid must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. This type of aid includes the Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program, Federal Work-Study Funding, the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Program, and the New Jersey State Grant Program. FAFSA filing is also required for many of our need-based institutional scholarships.

Students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA applications by March 15 of each year to ensure consideration for the widest range of available funds. Some funds are limited and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, there is an advantage to submitting an early, accurate, and complete FAFSA application. On the FAFSA form, our college name should be listed as: Rutgers, The State University of NJ, Title IV Code 002629.

An Initial Offer of Financial Aid is mailed to all students as soon as possible after admission. This letter will provide a preliminary listing of the federal and state funding that Rutgers University may be able to provide. An official Financial Aid Award package will be generated after students have submitted their seat deposit, after FAFSA information has been thoroughly reviewed and certified, and after all required financial aid documents have been received and processed.

Students must reapply for financial aid each year by submitting a FAFSA or FAFSA Renewal by March 15. Financial aid packages are reconfigured annually and are based on the new budgets calculated by the university and on the most recent financial information provided by the student.

Financial counseling is available for all law students at the law school whether they qualify for financial aid or not.
