In cooperation with the School of Social Work, through the accelerated program, full-time students may complete the requirements for the J.D. and master of social work (M.S.W.) degrees in four years rather than the five usually needed to complete both degrees separately. Students interested in the program must apply for admission individually to the School of Social Work and to the School of Law-Newark, and must satisfy admission requirements for the respective schools. To receive the joint degrees, participating students must meet the academic standards of both programs throughout their courses of study. Both units accept up to 12 credits from the other in order to satisfy respective degree requirements.
The program offers two paths of study. In the first path, the student begins the program at the law school and completes the program at the School of Social Work. In the second path, the student begins the program in the School of Social Work and completes the program at the law school.
For more information about the joint-degree program, contact the law school admissions office or the dean of students for the School of Social Work. The application deadline is March 15 for the law school and March 1 for the School of Social Work. Current, first-year law students also may apply for admission to the joint-degree program. To apply to the School of Social Work, call the graduate admissions office at 732-932-7711.
