01:146:245 Fundamentals of Neurobiology (3) Introduction to the biology of the nervous system. Topics covered include nerve cell signaling, sensory and motor systems, and higher brain processes. Prerequisites: 01:119:115-116.
01:146:270 Fundamentals of Cell and Developmental Biology (3) Principles of cell biology. Structure, function, and macromolecular organization of cellular organelles. Prerequisites: 01:119:115-116.

01:146:340 Virology (3) Principles of virology including the molecular and cellular events that occur during virus replication, the host cell response, and pathogenesis. Emphasis on animal viruses that impact human health and disease. Strategies for controlling viruses. Prerequisite: 01:146:270.
01:146:356 Systems Physiology (3) Comprehensive study of the principal organ systems of laboratory animals and humans. Prerequisites: 01:119:115-116 and 01:160:161-162 or 163-164, and 171 Credit not given for both this course and 11:067:300.
01:146:357 Systems Physiology Laboratory (1) Laboratory to accompany the Systems Physiology lecture course 01:146:356. Lab. 3 hrs. Pre- or corequisite: 01:146:356.
01:146:405 Honors Seminar (3) This course is intended to help students prepare a written research thesis and practice the oral thesis presentation. Requires departmental permission. Open only to senior honors students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience. This course fulfills the SAS WCd core requirement.

Culminates in a written thesis and oral thesis defense. Permission of department and an instructor willing to sponsor the student are required. Open only to seniors majoring in cell biology and neuroscience who meet the requirements for the departmental honors program.
01:146:410-411 Research Thesis in CBN I and II (3-3) Two semester laboratory research sequence under the direction of a Rutgers faculty member and the course coordinator. Prerequisites: 01:146:307 or 01:146:308. Requires departmental permission and acceptance by a faculty mentor who will host the student in the laboratory. Requires submission of a written thesis draft (I = Fall semester), and submission of a final written thesis and oral defense (II = Spring semester). Open to senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience who are not enrolled in the departmental honors program.
01:146:445 Advanced Neurobiology I (3) Advanced concepts in neurobiology focusing on cellular and molecular aspects of neuronal signaling, including ion channel gating, and transmission across chemical and electrical synapses. Prerequisites: 01:146:245 and 01:146:270. Intended for junior or senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience.
01:146:447 Advanced Neurobiology II (3) Advanced concepts in neurobiology focusing on injury to brain and spinal cord, regeneration, and neurodegenerative diseases. Prerequisites: 01:146:245 and 01:146:270. Intended for senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience.
01:146:456 Advanced Physiology (3) Preparation for advanced graduate study in physiology and for medical physiology (first-year medical school). Focus on mammalian physiology and the whole animal (whole organ) approach to classical experimental physiology. Prerequisites: 01:146:356. Intended for senior and junior students.
01:146:464 Topics in Cell Biology and Neuroscience (3) Directed readings and discussion of selected topics in cell biology and neuroscience. Prerequisites: 01:146:245 and 01:146:270. Open to junior or senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience.
01:146:470 Advanced Cell Biology I (3) Advanced concepts of cell biology focusing on the molecular organization of cells, the genome, the cell cycle, cell-cell adhesion and the extracellular matrix. Prerequisite: 01:146:270. Open to junior or senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience.
01:146:471 Advanced Cell Biology Laboratory (3) Advanced laboratory methods in cell biology. Emphasis on light and electron microscopy, imaging, immunocytochemical techniques, tissue culture, and methods of identifying and separating macromolecules. Prerequisite: 01:146:470 or permission of instructor.
01:146:472 Advanced Developmental Biology (3) Molecular biology of early development, morphogenesis, organogenesis, tissue interactions, and genetic control of cellular differentiation. Prerequisite: 01:146:270 or 01:447:380 or 01:447:384. Intended for junior or senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience.
01:146:474 Immunology (3) Fundamental principles of immunology with emphasis on antibody formation, immunoglobulin molecules and genes, hypersensitivity reactions, and the cellular basis for the immune response. Prerequisites: 01:119:115-116 and 01:447:380 or 01:447:384. Recommended: 01:447:390.
01:146:475 Laboratory in Immunology (1) Biochemical and molecular analysis of immune cell function. Application of immunological techniques to the examination of normal and diseased states. Pre- or corequisite: 01:146:474.
01:146:478 Molecular Biology (3) Structure and function of macromolecules, recombinant DNA technology, and study of genes and their regulation at the molecular and cellular levels. Prerequisites: 01:160:307-308. For juniors and seniors only. Credit not given for both this course and 01:694:408 or 11:126:481.
01:146:480 Advanced Cell Biology II (3) This course addresses advanced concepts of cell biology, focusing on mRNA processing, signal transduction, the cytoskeleton, and cell movement. Prerequisite: 01:146:270.  Intended for junior or senior students majoring in cell biology and neuroscience.
