The School of Management and Labor Relations' (SMLR) online program for the bachelor of science (B.S.) degree in labor and employment relations (LER) is perfectly suited for highly motivated, independent students who are seeking the convenience of distance learning. A typical online learner is self-directed, self-motivated, and organized in his or her approach to studying. This program is ideal for adult learners.
All 36 credits needed for the B.S. degree in LER can be completed exclusively online or through a combination of online and live courses. In order to complete the degree solely online, students must be sure they have completed SMLR's general education requirements since some requirements may not be available from Rutgers online, particularly 01:355:101 (Expository Writing). An A.A. or A.S. degree will suffice and many A.A.S. degrees will require only a few additional general education courses.
Students must ensure that they have the appropriate computer requirements needed to fulfill their work. Academic requirements for individual courses in LER are identical for both the online and in-person versions. Online learners will not be segregated into a separate cohort.
Please note that not all online courses are the same. Classes and experiences will vary, as it does with in-person class sessions. Students' course responsibilities using this learning venue require the same, if not more, commitment than traditional courses. In turn, students will learn as much or more than what they would learn in a traditional class.
