Candidates for honors in art history must, at the end of their junior year, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and an average of 3.5 or better in the major. In their senior year, students enroll in 01:082:497-498, in which independent research on a specific topic is undertaken, and an honors thesis is written under the supervision of a department faculty member. The committee determines whether the candidate merits honors based on the thesis and the student's overall record. Students planning to write an honors thesis are strongly encouraged to enroll in 01:082:403 Approaches to Art History in the
spring semester of their junior year. For a more complete description of the honors program guidelines, refer to the art history website: http://arthistory.rutgers.edu/academics/undergraduate/honors-program-in-art-history.
