Health Administration for Transfer Students (Direct Admit to EJBSPPP)

This program is designed to accommodate the needs of transfer students, both traditional and nontraditional students.

Entry requirements for community college transfers include:

•  Successful completion of an associate degree program with a grade-point average of 2.5 or better.

• Completion of 01:355:101 (3) Expository Writing or its equivalent with a C or better.

Community college students are encourages to apply prior to completing their degree program, indicating their anticipated degree completion date from their community college. Students at the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences who are in good academic standing are eligible to transfer into the Bloustein School as health administration majors.

The health administration major prepares students for entry-level positions leading to an administrative career path in the health care sector. Students learn to address administrative and management problems in long-term and acute care venues, deal with third-party payer and employment situations, and employ microeconomic theory to justify management decisions. They learn the regulations related to union, human resources, and institutional management practices, as well as the policy and ethical contexts in which administrative decisions are made. The major leads to the bachelor of science (B.S.) degree awarded by the Edward J.Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.

Students seeking the health administration major must have completed at least 30 credits before applying to the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Successful applicants will have completed the prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better, and have achieved an overall grade-point average of at least 2.5. Students interested in a related minor course of study are referred to the public health management certificate within the public health major.

Concentration in Long-Term Care: Students interested in a career in long-term care must complete the health administration major, as well as 10:832:341 Public Health and Aging, 10:501:342 Long-Term Care Management, and complete the 10:775:499 Professional Practice Internship in a long-term care setting in preparation for taking the New Jersey State Nursing Home Administrator Licensing Exam.
