About Our Programs

The Human Resource Management Department of the School of Management and Labor Relations offers a bachelor of arts (B.A.) degree in human resource management (HRM) and a minor in human resource management. Human resource management is one path to understanding business that does not require a traditional business degree. Students wishing to pursue the B.A. in HRM typically do so through admission to the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences.

Our HRM programs help prepare students for successful corporate, consulting, or governmental careers. The HRM major and minor provide a business perspective that is particularly useful to students who major in psychology, economics, communication, or other social science programs. The B.A. in HRM and the HRM minor also prepare students interested in pursuing the master of business administration (M.B.A.) degree.

Students who successfully complete either the major or the minor program can combine some credits earned with graduate work to earn a master's in human resource management (M.H.R.M.) degree at Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations through a five-year plan. Students may transfer up to 18 credits of human resource management (37:533) classes with a grade of B or better, enabling them to complete a master's degree in approximately one additional year. This is provided the courses are from the published list of transferable courses and is contingent upon acceptance into the master's in human resource management program.

With the support of the nation's largest and most frequently published and cited human resource faculty, our human resource management programs could be the entry to a successful and rewarding career. Past Rutgers human resources management graduates are currently working in leadership positions in some of the largest companies around the world.
