The following requirements must be met to complete a major in psychology:
1. Four Subdiscipline Core Courses (a separate course must be selected from each of the following four subdiscipline clusters and must be taken within the 01:830 subject index of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) Department of Psychology):

2. Completion of Five Psychology Electives (to be selected from the department's complete set of course offerings).
- These may include any additional courses from the subdiscipline core categories above (i.e., selections beyond those required to meet the subdiscipline distribution requirement), as well as additional 400-level courses.
- No more than three credits of nonclassroom courses such as fieldwork, research, or internships may be applied toward the major (6 credits may be applied as a capstone). The additional credits do, however, apply toward the overall graduation credits and students are encouraged to take additional credits.
- All 400-level psychology electives have the prerequisites of a 4-credit lab course plus at least one core course. Individual courses may have additional prerequisites and instructors may grant special permission to enroll.
- Transfer courses may be applied, but at least one of the five electives must be completed within the SAS Department of Psychology.
- No more than two 200-level courses may be applied.
3. Completion of One 400-level Elective. Students are strongly encouraged to select a designated writing-intensive course. These writing intensive courses are designed to be a capstone experience--a comprehensive project that reflects what the student has learned in the discipline of psychology and demonstrates the ability to address the types of questions and issues presented in the field of psychology.
4. Completion of One College-level Math Course. Students who plan to attend graduate school are urged to complete precalculus or higher.

Research; 01:220:322 Econometrics; 01:377:275 Basic Statistics for
Exercise Science (except Winter Session) or an equivalent transfer course. **Will also apply toward either the core course or psychology elective
requirement as indicated below. General Psychology and Quantitative
Methods in Psychology are prerequisites.
