The minor in critical sexualities studies introduces
students to the study of sexuality and sexual variation from historical,
cross-cultural, and contemporary perspectives. Students in the minor will examine
current debates about the meaning of sexuality and its relation to social regulation,
identity, community formation, artistic and documentary expression (in
literature, film, and other media) and popular culture; they will consider how
social and historical conditions shape even the most intimate aspects of human
life; and they will develop informed and critical perspectives on sexualities
as they intersect with race, gender, and other gradients of social difference,
dynamics of power, political and economic formations, and social
struggles.
