The interdisciplinary minor in Latin American studies consists of 18 credits, of which 6 credits must be at the 300 level or above, completed with a grade of C or better. The program's required core course is 01:590:201 (Introduction to Latin American Civilization and Culture). There are two other required courses in history and social sciences, respectively: 1) 01:508:260 (Colonial Latin America) or 01:508:262 (Modern Latin America); 2) 01:595:298 (Latinos and Migration) or 01:595:299 (Latinos and Community) or 01:790:312 (Change in Latin America). Minors must demonstrate language proficiency in Spanish (equivalent to 01:940:325 or above) or proficiency in Portuguese (equivalent to 01:810:201 or 203 or above). Course selections for the minor must be approved by the academic director or a program adviser.
